Why I smile…

You know those people that you get around and immediately feel better? The ones who impress (or annoy, if you are a pessimist) you because they are always smiling and positive? I’ll let you in on a secret. Most of those people have their fair share of bad days. Just because they smile, because they choose to have a positive attitude, doesn’t mean that their lives are perfect. It just means that they choose to dance in the rain. I’ll admit, my attitude doesn’t always lean toward the positive, but when I stop to think about it, I feel better if I find the silver lining then I do if I sit and cry about it. I mean, do you really feel better if you walk around like a crab, with a scowl on your face, pissing and moaning about how life isn’t fair? Basically all you do is isolate yourself from people who do not want to be around your crabby ass and that dark cloud of distress follows you around. So, my goal from here on out is to spread joy and encouragement by embracing life’s challenges. Got a crabby teen/kid running around your home complaining about everything? Be thankful that they are healthy enough to argue with you. I bet there is a mother somewhere who lost her child and would be grateful to hear her kid complain to her one more time. Work is insane and you can’t catch your breath? Be grateful you have a job to pay your bills and keep you in your home and your children fed. I am sure there is a homeless family who would be happy to have the chaos of a job and steady paycheck. Smile, make your joy contagious. You never know who you might touch or the wave of positivity you could start if you just smiled! I’ll say it again, Life is hard. But its the challenges that make you appreciate the goods, the lows that make you grateful for the highs, the trials that strenthen you. Remember it all comes down to attitude! You get to choose the kind of day you are going to have, the kind of life you are going to live, and the example and impression you leave on this world.

Giving up….. and why not to….

Life is hard… seems sometimes like just one big string of heartbreaks and disappointments. I know there’s been many times when I wanted to give up. When life got too hard to feel like I could keep going. When giving up seemed like the only reasonable ending. But here’s why I didn’t… it’s really true what they say. Anything worth having is worth fighting for. You’re going to get knocked down. You’re going to get hurt. But at the end of it all, you’re going to end up where you’re supposed to be. The best part… you’ll see that the journey made the reward that much sweeter. So don’t give up. You’re stronger then you think you are. Have faith in yourself and watch as the journey before you leads you to your dreams. It won’t be easy, it never is. But you’ll see, it’s so worth it!!

Life IS beautiful

It’s so strange to me… this thing we call adulthood. See, I’ve been an adult for a long time, but some days I still feel like a kid. I think back to what I imagined I’d be doing at this stage on my life. Wow, would the young Sarah be disappointed. But the woman I am now is not. Yes, my life took a completely different path. I’m not famous, I’m not skinny, and I’m certainly not rich, at least with money. But I have so much to be grateful for. I am healthy, though my daily aches and pains remind me that I am in fact growing older. I am not homeless, I have a humble yet beautiful home. I have family that I love and friends that love me at my worst, cry with me, laugh with me, and stand beside me through it all. I am not off a half a world a way fighting in a war that seems to be without end, but I am for sure thankful for those who are. Life is all about how you look at it. Yes, I have my trials ¬†and I have past hurts and disappointment. I am not naive to what the world is really like. But at the end of the day, I have what matters and I bet you do too. The trials and tribulations make you stronger, the adversity makes you grow. The things you truly want, you fight for. So, I implore you, find the beauty in your life. If you don’t like your job, change it. If you’re stuck in a place you don’t like, change it. If you want to be a better person, don’t just say it do it. If you have dreams, go after them and if you fail, then pick yourself up after a good cry and try again and try HARDER. Life is what you make it. You get to choose. So DO IT!! Life IS beautiful!!!!

What it all comes down to….

So, I guess I started a blog. Weird. I’m not sure if anyone will read this, but I guess it’s just a place to put down all these extra thoughts in my head. Lately, my mind is consumed with all the crazy things that happen in our world from day to day. You can hear about a new murder in the news daily… another child lost to an angry parent, a spouse or partner lost to jealousy, rage, pain, kids killing kids. You have ISIS across the world just decimating people at an alarming rate. I sometimes wonder, “why even get out of bed? There’s so much hate, so much pain, so much darkness in the world.” And it’s true. For every happy, uplifting story you hear, there are 3 more dark and depressing ones. If it’s not the murder and pain in the world that we read about, it’s conflict. Conflict over whose to blame for the decline of our economy, conflict over what direction we are supposed to take, which ideals should continue to shape our country, whose rights, religious beliefs, agendas should be accepted and whose should not. It’s tiresome, in my opinion. Someone somewhere is always being offended, ostracized, neglected. Do I have my own fundamental beliefs? Yes. Do I think mine are the correct beliefs? At least for me, they are. Do I make room for the fact that I might be wrong? MOST ASSUREDLY SO! Bottom line of it all is this, regardless of what I believe, what I stand for, what I want, I still appreciate and love people from all faiths, all political parties, all ideals. I think there is a reason the Bible tells us repeatedly to love one another. Call me naive, call me a dreamer, but I believe that if everyone followed that simple rule, the world would be a lot better place. This concept is not foreign to most people. But from the looks of it, its a hard one to follow. Why? because we want what we want, because we all believe in different things, we all stand for different things. But isn’t that what makes us special? Do we all need to believe the same thing, think the same thing to love each other? I don’t think so. I can tell you, I honestly love people. I love meeting new people, making new friends and they do not have to have the same beliefs, opinions or ideals as I do. I really truly believe that if everyone just spread a little love around, maybe things could change. Every movement started with just one idea, one person. But you have to want it and most importantly, you have to mean it….
